Guess what... This year there will again be some MaasSAC courses!... So what’s new? Well... the KlimOp is currently rewriting everything ever written about climbing courses in order to provide you guys with a course that is completely up-to-date! Just a course?... Actually, there are several courses this year, you can find more information below.

Klimtechnieken cursus voor beginners

Deze cursus wordt gegeven door Loek en is bedoeld voor iedereen die de meest gebruikte technieken van het klimmen wil leren. Het niveau van je klimprestaties gaat zeker omhoog en het kan dan ook geen kwaad deze te volgen, of je nu net lid bent, of dat je al je 5de jaar bij de vereniging bent.
De cursus wordt één keer in het jaar gegeven en dan meestal aan het begin van het jaar rond 20 oktober. De cursus duurt 4 dinsdagen van 20.00 tot 22.00 en kost in principe niets. Wel wordt er gevraagd om 5 euro borg, deze krijg je terug zodra je aan alle trainingen hebt mee gedaan.

Klimtechnieken cursus voor gevorderden

Voor iedereen die met weemoed terugkijkt naar de tijd dat hij/zij nog zo snel bijleerde is er nu de klimtechnieken cursus voor gevorderden (KTCvG). Ook deze training wordt gegeven door Loek. Hij zal proberen alles wat je altijd al stiekem fout doet weg te werken. En verborgen kwaliteiten waarvan je nooit wist dat je ze had tevoorschijn te toveren. Met het uiteindelijke doel die bloody 7a zover te krijgen dat ie meewerkt!
De cursus is in beginsel voor mensen die minstens een jaar geleden de normale KTC gedaan hebben. Je klimt dus minstens 6b op de hoofdwand. Zit je hier niet bij, maar je wilt wel graag meedoen, geef je nog steeds maar gewoon op. Loek en de commissaris indoorklimmen gaan uiteindelijk samen overleggen over de inschrijvingen en besluiten voor wie de cursus geschikt is. Dit is uiteraard niet om mensen te pesten, maar om een hogere kwaliteit cursus te kunnen garanderen aan álle deelnemers.
De cursus wordt één keer in het jaar gegeven, rond 15 april is de eerste cursusavond. Deze cursus duurt ook 4 dinsdagen van 20.00 tot 22.00, het kost niets extra's, alleen Neoliet entree en 5 euro borg.

Indoor lead-climbing course (VKCH):

During the VKCH (voorklimcursus hal) you will learn everything about lead-climbing indoors. This course is divided over two evenings. Things you will learn:

• Clipping quickdraws extremely fast.
• Management of the position of your feet and the rope while climbing.
• Setting up a tope-rope after leading a route.
• Belaying a lead climber ("spotten", giving the proper amount of slack, arresting a fall).
• Relaxing while falling ;) .
• Setting up a belay ("Stand" in Dutch)

The course is for free, you will only have to pay the Neoliet entrance.

In order to participate in this course you have to be able to climb a long 5+ in Neoliet without any problems (that is, climb it in one go without hanging in the rope). All routes at the bottom-floor count, except for the very short ones on the right.
Besides, the course is obligatory if you want to take part in the outdoor lead-climbing course (VKCB).

Rescue-technique course

During the rescue-technique course you will learn all the relevant techniques for a rescue while rock-climbing. Techniques you will learn:

• Ascending and descending a rope with your prusik
• Express Flaschenzug
• Seilrolle Flaschenzug
• Selbstseilrolle
• Schweizer Seilrolle

The course is for free.
This course ends with a little exam about all the techniques mentioned above.
Besides, the course is obligatory if you want to take part in the outdoor lead-climbing course (VKCB).

Outdoor lead-climbing course (VKCB):

During the VKCB (voorklimcursus buiten) you will learn everything about climbing on real rock. When you pass the exam at the end of the course you are officially an aspirant lead climber (advo). As an advo you are not only allowed to hire a rope from the MaasSAC for just 2 euros a week but you also know everything needed to go climbing safely with another advo. This course is divided over three weekends and will take place in Belgium. Things you will learn:

• All the techniques from the VKCH and RTC but then in an outdoor situation.
• All techniques needed for multi-pitch climbing.
• Setting the rope to descend the rock by the rope.
• Instructing a beginner.
• Finding a route in the topo and on the rock.
• Time management while climbing.
• Organizing your own climbing trip.
• What to pack when you go climbing.

The course will cost €120 in total.
This course ends with an exam about the first 5 techniques mentioned above.

Besides, the KlimOp would like to stress that:

1. MaasSAC needs kaderleden (that is AKIs/KIs)!
2. Actually it is not that hard to become AKI/KI.
3. We really feel like helping you to become AKI/KI... Therefore...
4. We will organize an AKI/KI practice weekend in spring next year! This weekend will set you back 25 euros (the same as a normal blokweekend), however this weekend will actually teach you new tricks which will make your life as a climber (AKI/KI) much easier. Besides, we will rehearse some of the things you will have to do during your AKI/KI exam and practice on nuts and friends skills.
